Corman Park Police Chief Robert Duttchen issued the following statement on June 23 in response to recent events in which several police officers in Canada were shot:
“Since June 9, the policing community across Canada has been shaken by a succession of tragedies that no words can adequately express. In moments like these, we are reminded of the profound bond that exists between police agencies from coast to coast to coast — and that the dangers of this profession can come without warning and exact the greatest cost of all.
“The thoughts and prayers of the Corman Park Police Service are with the Ontario Provincial Police in the loss of Constable Tarun Bali, with the Toronto Police Service in the loss of Constable Marc Pinizzotto, and with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal following the brazen attack in Montréal that claimed the life of a member of the public and, tragically, the life of Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane — leaving a second officer seriously wounded.
“These losses weigh even more heavily following the shooting of two Royal Canadian Mounted Police members in Melville on June 21, both of whom now face the road of recovery from life-altering injuries.
“To the families, friends, colleagues, and communities affected by these events, we extend our deepest and most sincere condolences. We will hold you, and the memory of every one of these brave officers, in our thoughts and prayers.
“The Corman Park Police Service stands with officers across this country — committed to honouring the fallen and to continuing to stand in the gap between the citizens we serve and those who would seek to do them harm.”
