After being edged 2-1 in an overtime shootout by the Ice Wolves in the Warman Home Centre Communiplex on Friday, September 12, the Warman Wolverines returned the favour on Saturday, September 13, downing their opponents 6-1 at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre in LaRonge.

The Wolverines and Ice Wolves are getting to know each other pretty well in pre-season play, having faced off  against each other three times so far this month.

After a scoreless first period in the September 12 game against the Ice Wolves, the visitors drew first blood on a power play goal by William Knox at the 8:08 minute mark, with assist by Alexander Raskin and Jacob Zilber.

The Wolverines responded with a power play marker of their own at 13:34 of the same period, when Riley Rich-Holden scored, thanks to assists from Vincent Palmarin and Dayce Derkatch.

The score remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. In the overtime shootout, LaRonge snipers Shane Fillmer and Jacob Zilber scored, while Warman’s Owen Parks was the lone goal-scorer for Warman.

The Wolverines bounced back the next evening in the northern community,  scoring early and often.

Kane Kennedy, Vincent Palmarin, Kayden Yeaman and Cam Sarna all scored for Warman in the first period.

LaRonge’s Shane Fillinger got his team on the scoreboard early in the second period, but that was all the Ice Wolves could muster in the way of goals.

Warman’s Dayce Derkatch and Kane Kennedy added two more goals in the second frame to put the game away for the visitors.

Having earlier lost 4-2 to the Humboldt Broncos on September 5, the Wolverines will now host Humboldt for their season-opener on Friday, September 19 at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
