The City of Warman has agreed to award the naming rights for the two hockey rinks in the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.

Warman Recreation and Community Services Manager Paul McGonigal revealed details of the agreements at the Warman City Council committee of the whole meeting on Monday, July 14.

The city signed a five-year, $125,000 agreement with KH Developments for the spectator arena. Under the deal, the company will pay $25,000 annually to the city for the next five years to have the 1200-seat rink officially named ‘KH Developments Ltd. Arena.’

The city also signed a five-year $100,000 deal with MNP to name the recently-completed community rink, located in the newly-expanded north end of the recreation complex, as MNP Arena. The agreement will see the company pay the city $20,000 per year for the next five years for the naming rights.

The agreements will help the city cover operating costs for the facility. The city is currently inviting other companies to apply for naming rights on other amenities within the recreation complex.

McGonigal said while the finishing touches to the expansion are proceeding nicely, work on the north end of the parking lot is behind schedule, largely due to weather issues. The parking lot has been excavated and is being built up with a solid base prior to paving. He said the project is moving as quickly as possible.

The city has also signed a Food and Beverage agreement with Paul Carter, who will operate the new concession, restaurant and lounge facility in the expanded arena. The new restaurant will be known as the Power Play Restaurant and Grill and is anticipated to open in August. The new lounge in the MNP Arena will be called the Penalty Shot Bar & Lounge and is expected to open in late August.
