The Sask Five 15UAAA Giants were like a well-oiled machine in their 10-0, 9-0 doubleheader wins over the visiting Swift Current 57’s at Mocon Field Saturday, June 7. They dominated all aspects of the game with great pitching, hitting, base running and solid defence.

The Giants set the tone for the day early, scoring six runs in the first inning of game one. They were masters of small ball, getting runners on base with five singles, two walks and a hit batter. Their aggression on the base paths allowed the Giants to take advantage of two wild pitches and a Swift Current error to run up the score.

More of the same in the second inning with three walks and a single, scoring both runs on wild pitches.

In the fifth inning three singles brought in two runs, making the score 10-0 and ending the game with the mercy rule.

Giants pitcher Carson Perrier was dissecting the plate, striking out nine batters against only one walk over four innings. Jax Kennedy earned the save, pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game.

The squad had ten hits in the game to go along with six walks. Three of those walks were by Perrier, showing a good grasp of the strike zone in both his pitching and hitting. Jyles Kennedy, Reid Viden and Jackson Dowie each had two hits. Dowie led the way with two runs batted in.

In game two Jax Kennedy earned the win, only allowing one hit over four innings pitched. Reid Viden pitched two innings of relief and also held Swift Current to one hit.

The team continued to provide support, having the hot bats pounding out twelve hits. Carson Perrier, Brady Menzies, Keaton Mora, Jax Kennedy, and Easton Leishman each had two hits. Perrier and Leishman led the way with three RBIs each.
