The SaskFive 18UAAA Marlins were three for three on their weekend home stand. The wins improved their record to 7-3, moving them towards the top of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League standings.
On Saturday, May 31, Sask Five burst out of the gate with a nine run first inning on their way to a 16-6 win over the Z7 Sun Devils.
The team batted around with singles by Josh Gutek, Axel Flodell X2, Kash Berg, Willis Simair, Mason Schierling, a double by Ben Hosegood and walks by Grayden Jackson, Josh Gutek, Kash Berg.
They added two more runs in the third inning and ended the game with five more runs in the fifth inning. Rhett Anderson, Ben Hosegood and Axel Flodell each had three RBIs.
The team was very patient at the plate, drawing nine walks to go along with their 13 hits.
Rhett Anderson was the winning pitcher striking out two batters over four innings. Houston Koch came in relief allowing zero hits while striking out two.
On Sunday, June 1, Sask Five hosted a doubleheader against the South East Twins.
Game one was a dominant 12-2 win. Willis Simair pitched a masterpiece, giving up only three hits over six innings, striking out 11 batters while walking only two.
Ben Hosegood led the way at the plate, going three for four. Rhett Anderson contributed with three RBIs.
Game two was a little closer with the home team coming out on top 5-1.
Ben Hosegood earned the win, striking out five batters and walking two over six innings.
The speedy Houston Koch scored the first two runs on a pitcher error in the second inning and a wild pitch in the fourth inning. The Marlins added to their lead in the fifth inning when Josh Gutek hit a triple and scored on a Ben Hosegood ground ball. Rhett Anderson led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a Blake Rowan single. Rowan scored on a double to right field by Daysen Gabruck. The defence helped the cause by executing two double plays.
