Mason Reimer, a Grade 12 student at Warman High School, was presented with the 2024 Future Leader Award at a Warman City Council meeting on Monday, May 12.
The Warman Future Leader Award is given to a resident 18 years or under who is actively involved in the community and who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in his or her area of interest.
Last year, when Mason was in Grade 11, he started turning a few math teachers’ heads with his dedication to volunteering and helping out. That year, he had two spares in his schedule.
Instead of doing nothing or just going home during the spares, Mason reached out to two separate math teachers and asked if he could volunteer in the classrooms and help other students with their math.
Not knowing how often Mason was planning to help fellow students with their math, the teachers were pleasantly surprised to see he showed up for absolutely every period.
He was extremely reliable and, despite being only one year older than the students he was helping at the time, Mason was an amazing role model and well respected by his peers. He is positive, kind and makes an honest effort to connect with students.
Mason’s assistance in Grade 11 was a huge help to the teachers….so, it’s easy to understand why teachers were thrilled when, in Grade 12, he once again reached out asking if he could volunteer his assistance during his spare.
Corrie Pomarenski, one of the math teachers whose classes Mason volunteered at, said, “I have been teaching for over 30 years and have never had a student offer their time in this capacity. I am incredibly proud of the character and volunteerism of Mason.”
Mason has very strong grades academically and he will be furthering his education in the fall.
For going above and beyond in helping fellow classmates and teachers, Warman City Council congratulates Mason Reimer on receiving the 2024 Future Leader Award.
