By CHIEF RON CHOMYN, Corman Park Police Service

On April 27 at 10:30 a.m., Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) received a trespassing complaint at a rural address on Range Road (RR) 3063, where a male entered onto the property without permission. Upon arrival CPPS members were informed he had fled northeast of the property into a field towards the CNR train tracks east of RR 3063. As CPPS members approached, informing him he was under arrest for trespassing on railway property, he jumped up and ran into a tent nearby. At that time a fire erupted in the grass where he had been crouched down. He actively resisted arrest and had to be taken to the ground before he could be handcuffed. Saskatoon Fire Department  arrived on scene and the fire was extinguished. Firefighters informed members that an empty bottle of lighter fluid was found near where the fire had been set and it was evident to them that an accelerant had been used to ignite the blaze. The accused wilfully impersonated another male, at the scene and during a following up interview at the RCMP Detachment. His true identity was established by Warman RCMP after an extensive background check via the RCMP internal database. He was subsequently fingerprinted and lodged in cells at the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment to be held for court.

On April 29 at 11:00 p.m., on Merrill Road, CPPS executed a traffic stop on a blue Ford Edge after observing the vehicle had no license plate. This vehicle was known to police and had evaded police on a previous occasion. The driver displayed signs of drug impairment and was read the SFST demand, to which he understood and submitted to the roadside test. He failed to follow instruction given to him to complete the test properly and was subsequently placed under arrest for failing to comply with the demand. A meth bong was recovered from the back seat of the vehicle and was seized as evidence. He was transported to the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment, and was later released on an Appearance Notice to attend Saskatoon Provincial Court in June.

On April 30 at approximately 9:00 p.m., CPPS officers observed a vehicle driving 148 km/h in a 110 km/h zone southbound on Highway 11 near TWP 400. Police conducted a traffic stop where drug paraphernalia and open alcohol were observed in plain view. The driver and passengers were arrested. The vehicle was searched where $610 in cash, eight pills, 8.49 grams of crack cocaine divided into smaller bags, a scale, baggies, and two phones were seized. The driver displayed signs of impairment and provided a sample of his breath into the approved screening device, resulting in “WRN”. He was served a speeding ticket, open alcohol in a vehicle ticket and SGI impaired driver form. He was released with an undertaking for Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

On May 3 at 2:08 p.m., CPPS received a call from about a fire on TWP 374 and RR 3070.  Saskatoon and Dalmeny Fire attended the scene and ended up putting out the fire with the help of farmers running discers in the field. The fire was possibly caused by a cigarette as the fire appeared to start in the ditch of TWP 374 just west of the storage facility. No structures were damaged.

On May 2 CPPS conducted a high visibility checkstop at Clarence Avenue and Middleton Road between 7:00 p.m. and 1900 and 11:00 p.m. Over 350 vehicles were stopped and checked for sobriety. Unfortunately, one adult was charged criminally with Impaired driving and four others suspended for 72 hours after WARN readings were obtained on roadside screening devices.
