By CHIEF RON CHOMYN, Corman Park Police Service
Effective March 5, 2025, Corman Park Police Service is introducing the Home Watch Program.
Below is an overview of the program. This is NOT meant to take the place of regular checks on your property, just another level of service and peace of mind for Corman Park residents.
What is the purpose of this program?
CPPS Officers will conduct exterior checks of your residence to provide peace of mind while traveling or your home is vacant.
Who qualifies for the program?
Residents with a residential property in the RM of Corman Park who are traveling between five days and up to two months.
What is the cost of the program?
There are no fees associated with the program.
What is required to take advantage of this program?
An application must be submitted SEVEN (7) days before your travel departure date to allow processing time. Applications can be completed online at the RM of Corman Park website and returned by email to police.service@cormanparkpolice.ca or dropped off in person at the RM of Corman Park Police Service Office at 111 Pinehouse Road, Saskatoon.
Once an application is submitted, what happens next?
The Corman Park PS will review the application to ensure it meets the criteria and will contact the applicant by phone to discuss the application.
Once an application is accepted, what happens next?
During patrols, TIME PERMITTING, CPPS officers will attend your residence and conduct an exterior check to ensure the residence and detached structures are secure. PLEASE NOTE: This service does not replace any house inspections required by your house insurance policy and homeowners are responsible for ensuring they have adequate insurance coverage during their absence. This service is to ensure that if your home is broken into while you are away, it will be secured by the CPPS and RCMP.
What happens if a CPPS Officer discovers that your home has been broken into?
If a break-in is discovered, the CPPS Officer will notify the RCMP to commence a criminal investigation. The Officer will inform the homeowner, or the homeowner’s contact person, and assist with securing the home.
Summary of Program
When RM residents call the police and notify them that they are going out of town, officers will check out the property while on patrol – if time allows during the course of their duties.
Corman Park Police Service and the RM of Corman Park do not assume any liability for loss or damage to property during specified dates. Homeowners must ensure all insurance requirement needs are met during any absences.
The program should not replace the duty homeowners have to alert their neighbours they are leaving, and that they should hire a private security firm if they want to reinforce security.
It doesn’t replace the regular checks you would get through a private security company. Police will go by when they can, but there might be periods of time, where based on calls for service or other duties, they can’t get by consistently.
