Local community groups in Martensville and Warman were the recipients of more than $24,000 in charitable gaming grants paid out by Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) from July 1 to September 30, 2024.
According to a release from LGS, an estimated $2.8 million in grants were paid out to more than 1,400 groups and non-profit organizations across Saskatchewan in the second quarter of 2024-2025.
That includes $17,282.84 in grants going to groups in Martensville and $7,441.85 paid out to groups in Warman.
These quarterly grants are paid to groups and organizations in good standing that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingos, raffles, break-open ticket sales, Texas Hold ’em poker tournaments and Monte Carlo events. The grants are equal to 25 per cent of the net revenue raised by each charitable event, up to a maximum of $100,000 per group or organization annually.
The amount of each grant paid by LGS to each charity is calculated by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) based on financial reports and other information submitted by the group or organization.
“Our government is committed to ensuring that communities across Saskatchewan share in the benefits from gaming,” said Minister Responsible for LGS Jeremy Harrison. “Hundreds of charitable and nonprofit groups throughout the province receive these funds every year, and we encourage more groups to apply.”
Groups in Saskatoon and Regina were the biggest recipients of charitable gaming grants, with organizations in Saskatoon receiving more than $627,000 and Regina organizations receiving more than $524,000. Prince Alberta and area came in third with more than $357,000 in grants.
