SHSAA volleyball action continued over the weekend with 1A-5A girls and 5A boys provincial and 1A-4A boys regional tournaments taking place.

The Langham girls continued their strong play, coming away with a silver medal in the 2A girls tournament hosted by Outlook.

After they lost a highly competitive game to Gravelbourg in their first game the team rattled off five straight wins defeating Ituna 26-24, 25-13, Kinistino 25-15, 25-18, Davidson 25-20,25-19 in pool play, Wadena 25-23, 25-20 in quarter final playoff game and Moose Jaw Cornerstone 25-23, 17-25, 15-12 in their semi-final game. Wakaw edged them out in the championship game. Cornerstone Christian School took the bronze medal.

Langham coach Shawn Huber said in both the quarter-final against Wadena and the semi-final against Moose Jaw, the team rallied back from large deficits to win.

But, in the final their luck ran out against a tough Wakaw squad.

“We have four graduating players: Kelsey Lewis, Taiya Chappell and Mckenna Prefontaine, who have won a provincial medal in each of the three years they played,” said Huber. “They have two silver medals and a bronze medal.”

BOYS REGIONALS

Hepburn competed in 2A boys regionals hosted by Englefeld. They went 2-0 in pool play with wins over LCBI and Englefeld. They defeated Englefeld in the semi-finals and lost to Saskatoon Christian School in the championship game.

Clavet and Valley Christian Academy (VCA) hosted 3A boys regional tournaments.

Clavet went 2-0 in pool play with wins over Maidstone and Briercrest Christian Academy, They defeated Biggar in the semi-finals and lost to Unity in the championship game.

Waldheim and Osler VCA were the class of the VCA tournament.

Walldheim was 2-0 in Pool A play with wins over Senator Myles Verne and Rosthern Junior College (RJC).

Osler VCA was 2-0 in Pool B play with wins over Dalmeny and Spiritwood. Waldheim advanced to the final with a win over Dalmeny in their semi-final game while Osler VCA defeated RJC. Waldheim took the championship with a three set thriller over Osler VCA. RJC defeated Dalmeny in the third place game.

Martensville hosted a 4A boys regional tournament. They won their opening game against Sakaskohc and lost their second to North Battleford John Paul II. They lost their semi-final playoff game to Meadow Lake. Meadow Lake defeated NB JPII in the championship game. Kindersley defeated Martensville to take third place.

The 1A-4A boys provincials are scheduled for November 22-23. Full details on the upcoming tournaments, as well as the results, are available online at www.shsaa.ca.

The 2A boys will be hosted by Hillmond/Lashburn.  Hepburn is in pool B with Wilkie, Langenberg, Kincaid and Lashburn. 3A boys will be hosted by Esterhazy.  Clavet and Waldheim are in pool A with Regina Christian School, Esterhazy and Biggar. VCA and RJC are in pool B with Unity, Carnduff and Oxbow.
