By CHIEF RON CHOMYN, Corman Park Police Service
Each year, aggressive driving results in fatalities and thousands of serious injuries, with 56 percent of fatal traffic accidents caused by aggressive driving behaviors.
Aggressive driving usually involves one or more of the following dangerous behaviors:
• Speeding or Driving Too Fast for Conditions.
• Tailgating or Following Too Closely.
• Improper/Unsafe Passing, often without signaling.
• Improper /Unsafe Lane Usage, cutting off another vehicle.
• Obscene gestures and/or use of the horn out of anger or frustration.
Tailgating and riding a person’s bumper is much more evident now than I have ever seen….and it’s a dangerous practice,. Even if you think the car in front of you is driving too slowly, leave at least a two-second cushion between vehicles to provide enough room to stop suddenly if necessary.
Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) will be focusing on aggressive driving behaviours more than usual with the holidays upcoming.
Driving is not a competition so leave the ego at home. If another driver is acting aggressively, don’t take their challenge. Just back off and live to drive another day!
Incidents of Note
Corman Park Police Service is proud to partner with MADD Saskatoon and the kick off to Project Red Ribbon for the 2024 year. Project Red Ribbon raises awareness about the risks of impaired driving during the holiday season, and urges people to plan a safe ride home. CPPS will be conducting multiple impaired driving check stops throughout the holiday season. The check stop from this last weekend found that 6 individuals did not plan a safe and sober ride.
Injuries and deaths resulting from impaired driving are 100% preventable. Please plan a safe ride home through friends, taxi’s, ride shares, public transit and by walking.
