It’s election week, and a lot of folks are focused on political football.

But, the real football – or as we like to call it here in North America – soccer –  action is on high school fields across the province.

Regional soccer tournaments and play-in games for the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) were held from Thursday, October 17 to Saturday, October 19.

A 3A Boys Regional Tournament was hosted by Valley Christian Academy (VCA)which included Ahtahkakoop, Cudworth, Rosthern Junior College (RJC), Waldheim, Senator Allan Bird, Cst. Robin Cameron and Stobart. The host Osler VCA claimed the championship with a 2-1 win over Waldheim. They advanced to the final with wins over Ahtahkakoop (3-0) and Cudworth (4-0). Waldheim had wins over Senator Allan Bird (5-0) and Cst. Robin Cameron (3-2). The provincial tournament will be hosted by Maymont in North Battleford on October 25-26.

3A Girls had three play-in games. Osler VCA defeated Senator Allan Bird from Montreal Lake 4-0. Waldheim defeated Ahtahkakoop 6-0. Langham lost 5-2 in the game played in Muenster. The winners advance to the provincial tournament hosted by Maymont in North Battleford October 25-26.

4A Boys was hosted by Chief John Keenatch at Victoire including Chief Poundmaker, NB John Paul II, Martensville and Tisdale. The host came out on top defeating Humboldt 4-2 in the final. Martensville advanced to the semi-finals with a 8-0 win over Tisdale where they lost to Humboldt 3-1. The provincial tournament will be hosted by Yorkton Sacred Heart.

4A Girls had three play-in games. NB John Paul II defeated Chief John Keenatch 3-0, Regina Luther defeated Humboldt 9-0. Yorkton Sacred Heart defeated Regina Johnson 12-0. Martensville will host the winners in the provincial tournament October 25-26.

5A Girls Regional tournament was hosted by Warman including PA Carlton, PA St Mary and NB Comp. PA St. Mary was clearly the premiere team, defeating Warman 12-0 and PA Carlton 6-0. PA Carlton had defeated NB Comp 1-0 in their semi-final game. The provincial tournament is in Regina October 23-26.
