The Twin Rivers Hockey League (TRHL) completed another successful regular season. The twelve-team league provided a winter of top level hockey.
TRHL President Raymond Carriere was pleased that the league continues to be one of the biggest and most successful senior leagues in the province.
“The league has been very, very good,” said Carriere. “There is parity in the league, any team can leapfrog anyone on any given night. A new team from Bruno was a good addition. They fit in well.”
The league recently announced the 2023-24 award winners:
* Top Scorer: Ethan Regnier, Rosthern with 50 points on 18 goals and 32 assists;
* Top Goaltender: Addison Dasiuk, Dalmeny, with a goals against average of 2.00;
The following awards were voted on by the teams:
* Most Valuable Player: Regular Season: Ethan Regnier, Rosthern;
* Best Defenceman: Evan Pasternak, Allan & Mark Schneider, Clavet;
* Most Sportsmanlike Player: Tristan Hermanson, Hanley;
* Rookie of the Year: Ben Zultok, Rosthern.
The Playoff Most Valuable Player will be announced after the final series.
In round one of the East Division playoffs, Birch Hills Blackhawks defeated the Cudworth Tricky Maroons 7-4, 5-1. The Allan Flames defeated the Clavet Cougars 3-2 in overtime, 5-1.
In the West Division playoffs the Rosthern Wheat Kings defeated the Dalmeny Sabres 5-2, 7-1. The Willow Cree Chiefs defeated the Shellbrook Elks 6-3, 4-2.
