The Sask Valley Music Festival (SVMF) is well into planning for its annual festival of music and spoken word to be held in Rosthern next March, according to SVMF President Linda Swab.

The festival is scheduled to run March 13-20, with an Awards Concert on Friday March 22.

“We welcome all competitors,” said Swab. “But only those living within or studying with a teacher from within our boundaries are elligible for our awards and scholarships.

“Anyone from Warman and Martensville and north to Duck Lake and Blaine Lake are included. We would like to especially invite our neighbours close to us from Wakaw,Cudworth,Domremy and Bellevue to participate.”

Swab said festival organizers plan to hear piano students Wednesday March 13 to Friday, March 15; voice and spoken word on Monday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 19; and bands on Wednesday, March 20.

The Saskatchewan Music Festivals Association (SMFA), the provincial music festivals umbrella organization, is offering a refund of entry fees to choral speech classes who attend.

Swab pointed out that teachers who enter and prepare for their classroom entries can fulfill some of their English curricular requirements and could give their classes fun and confidence in public speaking.

“We would be over the moon to have so many entries that we need keep our adjudicator another day,” said Swab.
