Swift Current Legionnaires goalie Berney Weston makes a save

Despite a valiant effort, the Warman Wildcats find themselves down 2-0 in their playoff series with the Swift Current Legionnaires.

In game one the Wildcats ran into a hot goaltender. Berney Weston, fresh from helping Saskatchewan win a silver medal at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, stopped 37 of 38 shots.

Warman’s lone goal was a powerplay marker by Jeter Korte.

Scoring for Swift Current were Cobe Perlinger, Cam Perlinger, Eric Hoiness and Hudson Darby.

The Perlinger twins were also members of the medal-winning Saskatchewan team.

Game two was a home matinee game on March 5. Swift Current took an early lead on first period goals by Jace Eglad and Rylan Williams.

Carsyn Dyck scores a second-period goal

Warman had a strong push-back in the second period. Goals by Dawson Gerwing, Kazden Mathies and Carsyn Dyck gave the home squad their first lead of the game.

Swift Current was able to tie the game as they netted a powerplay marker by Hudson Darby with 22 seconds left in the second period.

Swift Current regained the lead early in the third period on a goal by Parker Rondeau.

Warman pressed hard for the remainder of the third period, but couldn’t solve Swift Current netminder Berney Weston, who made 30 saves in the game.

Game three is in Swift Current on Tuesday, March 7. If the Wildcats extend the serie,s game four will be at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex on Thursday, March 9.
