The total value of construction projects in the RM of Corman Park topped $121.6 million in 2022, a 32.2 per cent increase from the year before.

A report tabled at the RM of Corman Park council meeting on Monday, January 23 from the municipality’s planning department showed the  level of building activity reached a 10-year high last year. The value of construction, number of building permits, and total revenue to the municipality from building permit fees all hit record levels in 2022.

While the RM of Corman Park issued a total of 291 building permits during the 2022 calendar year, up slightly from the 288 permits issued in 2021; the overall value of the projects was substantially higher. In 2021, the value of construction was $91,975,308; in 2022 it peaked at $121,614,225.11.

The revenue from building permit fees also rose last year, topping out at $666,232.70; compared to $490,360.67 in 2021.

The largest residential construction project in the municipality last year was a $2 million single-family home in Division 1, which lies east of Saskatoon.

The largest agricultural construction project was a $600,000 barn addition for an intensive livestock operation in Division 5, which lies north of Saskatoon between the South Saskatchewan River and Highway 11.

The largest industrial-commercial construction building project in 2022 was a $14.6 million warehouse and office in Division 4 on the west side of Saskatoon.

The 10-year average value of construction for the RM of Corman Park between 2013 and 2022 was $84,605,362.66. The previous high for that period was in 2018, when the total value of construction was $112,928,553.53. The lowest value of construction was 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, when total value of construction fell to $55,094,258.

According to the Corman Park planning department year-end report, a total of 18 projects exceeded $1 million in value of construction during the 2022 calendar year. Twelve of those projects were single-family dwellings. Other notable projects include a $10 million construction yard development in Division 4 and a $3.2 million agricultural support service project in Division 1.
