The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) is excited to announce that HOOPLA 2022 will take Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26.

This weekend will crown 10 provincial champions across the 1-5A boy’s & girl’s classifications.  This will be the first time since 2019 that schools will compete for the provincial basketball championship.

A new format will be used for the 2022 season that will see 9 separate communities host championships.  We will return to the typical 48 team tournament in 2023 when Prince Albert hosts.

The SHSAA website tournament tool will provide scores and for the first time, in game statistics. Please check out all the schedules, results, and statistics at – https://www.shsaa.ca/page/show/3266146-provincial-basketball-2022

Provincial championship high school basketball began in 1951 and it has evolved to be five classifications and the competition we now know as HOOPLA!

For the first time in 40 years, the format for HOOPLA will be altered to account for the constantly changing climate in Saskatchewan. Nine communities across the province will have the opportunity to host the provincial basketball championship, some of whom will play on their home court.

The SHSAA Board of Directors met in January and determined that the championship would be split up for the 2022 season to assist with logistical planning, safety, and commitment to offering a provincial championship. The 5A Boys & Girls championship will remain in Regina using Miller Collegiate and LeBoldus Collegiate. HOOPLA 2023 will return to the typical 48 team format and will be hosted in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The ‘Road to Hoopla’ has led 48 teams to the first provincial basketball championship since 2019.

Many of the host sites have never had the chance to host a provincial basketball competition and are thrilled to be selected. Schools were required to submit a bid to host and only those teams who advanced from the Regional Championship weekend were considered.
