The Warman Wildcats U18 AAA lead the Saskatchewan Male AAA league.
A pair of home victories over the past weekend allow the team to remain in the top spot with 25 wins and 5 losses 1 overtime loss for 51 points.
Nipping at the heals of the Wildcats are the Notre Dame Hounds and the Saskatoon Blazers who each have 24 wins 6 losses and one overtime loss for 49 points.
As a result every game is magnified in importance.
The home squad took care of business as they downed the Prince Albert Mintos 3-2 on Friday, January 21 and followed that with a 7-1 win over Yorkton on Saturday, January 22 before good crowds at the Legends Centre in Warman.
In Friday’s home star of the game,Mason Bueckert led the team with a goal and an assist.
Bueckert(above) received a long pass from Carter Price and broke around the defence and tucked the puck past the goalie to open the scoring.
Warman took advantage of a home bounce on their second goal. After firing the puck into Prince Albert end the puck caught the goalie by surprise instead of going behind the net it popped out in front allowing Connor Gabriel to score the easiest goal of his career as he tapped it into the open net.
Prince Albert’s Zachary Bansley netted the only goal of the second period.
Jeter Korte restored the two goal early in the third with assists from Bueckert and Carsyn Dyck.
Bansley scored his second goal with four seconds left.
Bueckert also scored a goal in the game against the Yorkton Secon Maulers. in the Saturday game His 22 goals and 21 assists has the forward in the top five in league scoring.
Also scoring in the Yorkton game were Rhett Deknowy, Jordan Normand, Carter Price, Kazden Mathies and Connor Gabriel with a pair.
Dylan Schoenroth netted the lone Yorkton marker.
Home star of the game was Warman goaltender Alex Worthington who made 28 saves to help improve his goals against average to 2.07 which sees him as the league leader.
His partner in the nets, Luke Brunen also is in the top five with a goals against average of 2.42.
The Wildcats have a busy week as they travel to Moose Jaw on January 25 and have a pair of games in Swift Current on January 29 and 30.
