Students at Dalmeny High School (DHS) stand respectfully during an outdoor Remembrance Day service at the school on Monday, November 8. DHS teacher Sandra Schatz said the ceremony, featuring a trumpet player from the Saskatoon Brass Band; a member of the Dalmeny Police Service; a Dalmeny resident who is a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force; and a DHS student; was recorded on video to allow the community to view it as well. “This year marks the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the poppy as the symbol of remembrance,” said Schatz. “Holding the ceremony outdoors is a tribute to the old days when people gathered at the cenotaph to pay their respects.” The five-minute ceremony was repeated four times during the morning to allow four different cohort-grades of students to participate while observing COVID-19 public health protocols.
