UPDATE: Deliele RCMP have advised that as of 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 13, Highway 7 westbound is now open to traffic.
On Monday morning, September 13, at 7 a.m., Delisle RCMP were dispatched to a collision between a school bus and a semi on Highway 7 westbound, at the intersection of Durham Road.
The female driver of the bus and the male driver of the semi were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP officials say they do not have an update on the conditions of the people taken to hospital.
The bus had no children on it.
Delisle Fire Department and Medavie Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Delisle Fire Chief Mike Given said at the time of the collision, visibility was greatly reduced because of foggy conditions.
“It would appear that the school bus was coming from the north onto Highway 7 when it was struck in the westbound lane by the semi,” said Given in a phone interview at the scene shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13. “The westbound lane of the highway is still shut down at this time.”
Westbound traffic is currently being rerouted around the collision via Avondale Road during the initial investigation.
The Prairie Spirit School Division office issued the following statement following the incident on Monday:
“There was an accident involving a Delisle bus earlier this morning. There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident. The bus serves students in both Delisle Elementary School and Delisle Composite School. Emergency services responded at the scene and provided medical assistance. The driver has been taken to hospital. School counsellors are at the schools this morning to provide additional support to students.”
