Groups and organizations that conduct charitable activities are benefiting from more than $900,000 in grants from the provincial government’s charitable gaming grant program.
A dozen area communities, including Aberdeen, Clavet, Dalmeny, Delisle, Duck Lake, Dundurn, Langham, Macdowall, Martensville, Rosthern, Saskatoon and Warman, are among those receiving grants.
“Charitable gaming grants provide a financial boost to volunteer groups and organizations across the province,” Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Jim Reiter said. “Their work helps to enhance local communities in many different ways and our government is proud to provide this additional support to more than 300 groups and organizations.”
The area grants include:

* Delisle and District Recreation Association ($224.38);
* Duck Lake Blessed Sacrament Parish ($250);
* Duck Lake Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine ($250);
* Dundurn and District Library ($171.25);
*Dundurn Softball Association ($249.50);
* Langham Skating Club ($397.50);
* Langham L’il Viking Preschool Co-operative ($514.77);
* Macdowall and District Recreation Foundation ($206.39);
* Martensville and District Kinettes ($125);
* Rosthern Ukrainian Dolyna Dancers ($944.03);
* Saskatoon – Bloom in support of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit ($150);
* Saskatoon – Clavet Cougars U7B hockey team ($544.50);
Warman U11 Bengals hockey team ($645).
Among the grants provided by Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) during the most recent quarter, Moose Jaw and surrounding area received $113,462; Humboldt and surrounding area, $110,931; Swift Current and surrounding area, $65,847; Estevan/Weyburn and surrounding area, $51,190; and Lloydminster and surrounding area, $45,239.
Groups that raise funds through licensed charitable gaming (bingo, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas Hold ‘em poker and Monte Carlo events) receive a quarterly grant equal to 25 per cent of net proceeds raised through these activities.
Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities and events do not have to apply for the charitable gaming grant. Charitable gaming reports submitted by groups and organizations are used by SLGA to calculate grants.
