Shawn Moostoos

Shawn Moostoos was located at a residence in Melfort on September 6 at approximately 4 p.m., and was arrested by RCMP investigators without incident.

The Saskatchewan RCMP would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.

Moostoos, wanted by police in connection to a shooting that claimed the lives of two people on the James Smith First Nation September 5.

Police are not seeking additional suspects in regards to this incident.

According to an earlier media statement released by Sask. RCMP, investigators had determined three individuals were shot during an altercation in a residence in the First Nation (north of Melfort) on September 5 at approximately 7:19 p.m. A 37-year-old male and a 28-year-old female were confirmed to be deceased as a result of this incident.

The families of the deceased had been notified of the deaths and the names of the deceased will not be released by RCMP at this time.  A 44-year-old male was transported to hospital with what were described as serious, but non life-threatening injuries.  The suspect and the three victims were known to each other.

Since this incident was reported to Melfort RCMP, the James Smith First Nation and surrounding area had been thoroughly searched.  These search efforts included assistance from Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, STARS Air Ambulance, surrounding RCMP Detachments and Police Dog Services.

The investigation is still ongoing.
