If you’re old enough to remember the Ed Sullivan Show and Bonanza on TV on Sunday nights, you’ll likely know all the popular hits of the 1960s.
And here’s your opportunity to relive the good old days.
Ovide Pilon and his band are serving up a smorgasbord of hits from the golden age of rock ‘n roll on Friday, September 17 at the Western Development Museum concert hall.
A ‘Tribute to the Ed Sullivan Show’ showcases the music of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, the Monkees, the Bee Gees, the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Over the years, Pilon’s band’s tribute shows have regularly sold out.
This year, the concert is being limited to 250 tickets to ensure COVID-19 health protocols are adhered to. Pilon is among Saskatoon’s music legends, having grown up immersed in the music of his generation. As a youth growing up in a small Saskatchewan town, Pilon said he knew his calling was to play guitar. He emulated his idols and taught himself their guitar riffs. After moving to Saskatoon as a young man, he performed in a variety of groups, including ‘England’, a widely-respected Beatles tribute band.
A highlight of the night at the concert will be a special appearance by guitarist-singer Jayson Slack of Martensville, a member of the Warman RCMP detachment, who does uncanny tributes to both Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly.
Tickets to the ‘Tribute to the Ed Sullivan Show’ are $25; available at Captain’s Den in Market Mall and Sobey’s on 8th Street in Saskatoon. See the classified ad in this week’s Gazette.
