The federal Conservative Party is solidly behind the Ssakatchewan government’s massive irrigation project for Lake Diefenbaker.

Conservative leader Erin O’Toole announced September 1 that a Conservative government will commit to the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project, the largest infrastructure investment in Saskatchewan’s history.

“Justin Trudeau has paid lip service to funding the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project, but a year later, his government has yet to commit funding for this project,” said O’Toole. “A Conservative government will get shovels in the ground on this project to drive recovery for Saskatchewan and secure our long-term food supply.”

Once completed, the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project will create 2,500 jobs and support the growth of diverse, high-value crops, which will generate significant returns for producers in the province. More importantly, the project will reduce the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather and improve climate resiliency.

“After a summer of intense drought, Canada’s Conservatives are ready to take action to support Saskatchewan’s farming communities, unlike Justin Trudeau, who has completely ignored their needs,” said O’Toole. “Through Canada’s Recovery Plan, the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Project will create jobs and secure the future for farming families in Saskatchewan.”
