Saskatchewan’s top Junior A hockey players will take centre stage in Warman this fall when the Legends Centre hosts the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Showcase.
The three-day event, featuring all 12 SJHL teams, is designed to give hockey scouts a look at how individual players stack up in game situations. It also offers area hockey fans a chance to see non-stop high-calibre action close to home.
According to the SJHL website, each team will play two regular season games (one home and one away) throughout the three-day event. All games will be broadcast live on SaskTel and SaskTel Max TV.
The SJHL released its 2021-22 season schedule earlier this summer. The 58-game regular season kicks off September 24 and ends March 6, 2022. The top eight teams advance to the post-season. The final round of playoffs commences April 8, 2022.
After attempting to utilize a North/South Division split in the cancelled 2020-21 campaign, the SJHL will return to its more familiar three-division format in 2021-22.
The Top-8 teams regardless of where they finish within their division will advance to the SJHL playoffs.
The divisions are comprised as follows:
Sherwood Division: Flin Flon Bombers, La Ronge Ice Wolves, Melfort Mustangs, Nipawin Hawks
Global Ag Risk Solutions Division: Battlefords North Stars, Humboldt Broncos, Kindersley Klippers, Notre Dame Hounds
Viterra Division: Estevan Bruins, Melville Millionaires, Weyburn Red Wings, Yorkton Terriers
RINGETTE SHOWCASE
In addition to the SJHL Showcase, the Legends Centre will be the site of the Bernadette Price Memorial Ringette Tournament November 12-14.
The tournament, hosted by Saskatoon Ringette, will see AA and A-calibre teams from across Saskatchewan and Alberta taking part.
Saskatoon and Warman last hosted the tournament in 2019. Age divisions in that tournament included: U14AA, U16AA, U19AA, and U19A.
SPEED SKATING
The Legends Centre is also playing host to the Saskatchewan Provincial Speed Skating championship this fall. Scheduled for October 23 and 24, the competition features the best athletes in the sport.
