Martensville and Warman firefighters responded to a fire at an industrial plant south of Martensville last weekend.

Martensville Fire Department was called to the fire at Affiliated Auto Wrecking on Highway 12 shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17.

A column of thick black smoke could be seen for several kilometers.

The blaze is confined to a large bin of recycled metal, rubber and flammable material, possibly including diesel fuel.

Firefighters brought the fire under control very quickly. However, the material is highly combustible and is sometimes subject to flare-ups.

When firefighters arrived flames could be seen over the top of the bin.

Water to fight the fire had to be brought by tankers. Martensville Fire Department called on Warman Fire Rescue to provide a water tanker crew to assist in battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. Hot dry conditions may have been a factor. There were no injuries.
