If the current weather forecast holds up the Saskatoon region will begin a heat wave starting today.
“We want to remind the public and parents that with the increased temperatures comes illnesses associated with the sun if you’re not careful. Our bodies cool themselves by sweating and allowing sweat to evaporate, you need fluids in your body to be able to sweat” stated Troy Davies, Director of Public Affairs, Medavie Health Services West “We know everyone will be excited to be outside enjoying this weather, we want to ensure you do it safely”.
Tips to Remember
* Hydrate Well!! Plenty of fluids with electrolytes and avoid alcohol and caffeine’s as they speed up the dehydration process
* Watch for early signs of heat exhaustion, red skin, profuse sweating, nausea / vomiting
* Children and Seniors are more susceptible, parents make sure you’re children stay hydrated
* Take time to stay in the shade
* Wear sunscreen, sunburns prevent your body from cooling down efficiently
* Wear visors/ hats, sit under an umbrella, anything to avoid direct sunlight to your head is helpful
