The Delisle Fort Protection U23 Pride earned a comeback win over the Saskatoon WD Plastics Diamondbacks in a 10-7 decision on June 9 at Joe Gallagher field in Saskatoon.
Delisle struck first in the top of the opening inning by scoring a run, however, the Diamondbacks responded in their half of the inning, with a mini rally to take a 3-1 lead.
In the second inning, the bottom of the order for Delisle got on base which set the table for the top of the order. Ryan Bicknell smoked a single with the bases loaded, picking up two RBI in the process, to tie the game.
The tie didn’t last long, as the Diamondbacks scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-3 lead. The half-inning was highlighted by two-run home-run.
Delisle responded very quickly and rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. Again, the bottom of the order came up big.
Dylan Kvinlaug had a leadoff walk and even though Josh Perrin struck out, Will Major smoked a two-run home run to pull the Pride within one run. After Brant Wiebe hit a two out double, Troy Kosmynka drew a walk and Kobey Clarke drove them in with a double to give the Pride a 7-6 lead.
The Pride ended up scoring one run in each of the final three innings for the win.
Kosmynka started the game and pitched three innings while Brayden Harris threw four innings of relief.
The first week of league-play was a busy one for Delisle as the Pride played three games in four days. The Pride picked up a 15-3 win over the Saskatchewan Thunderbirds on June 6 and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Saskatoon Angels on June 8.
It was another late start to the season for all teams in the Saskatoon Amateur Softball League because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they are still fortunate to be able to play competitive ball.
