The Rosthern Motel was completely destroyed in an early morning fire on Wednesday, April 14.
Rosthern Fire Chief Darcy Hrycuik said fire crews were dispatched to the scene of the blaze at about 2:00 a.m. on April 14.
By the time they arrived, the building was already fully involved.
“We saved what we could, but it was already pretty far gone when we got there,” said Hryciuk in an interview later that morning. “Fortunately, there were no injuries. We did our best to save what we could.”
Hrycuik said Rosthern RCMP were already in scene when fire crews arrived. All the residents of the building had been safely evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival. No other structures were immediately threatened by the blaze.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation by RCMP.
Hrycuik said the motel was home to several longer-term residents.
Fire crews were on scene until about 5:00 a.m.
