The fire was inspected and it was determined that the business was burning wood from crates and pallets. The business owner was located inside a building on the property. He admitted to starting the fire and advised that he was unaware of the fire ban. He was asked if he checked the RM website prior to initiating the fire and he advised that he did not. The man told police that he thought it would be alright to start a fire because it had rained the night before. The man, a 53-year-old male resident of Martensville, was issued a Notice of Violation for breaching the Fire Services Bylaw, which carries a penalty of $300 on the first offence and $500 on any subsequent offences.
