The following is the occurrence summary for March 1-8.
On March 3 at 9:15 p.m. Corman Park Police were travelling westbound on Highway 14 when they observed an eastbound Chev Traverse travelling at 120 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped for speeding and the driver identified as a 50-year-old male resident of Stettler, Alberta.
Police observed an empty alcoholic beverage container behind the driver’s seat and questioned the driver about alcohol consumption. The man admitted to some consumption earlier in the day and he had the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The man was read a breath demand and he provided a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device, which registered a reading of FAIL. The man was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples at .10 and .09 mgs. The man was released on charges of impaired driving and his licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded.
On March 4 at 10:20 p.m. Corman Park Police observed a tractor-trailer unit being operated on Township Road 390 near Range Road 3053, west of Warman, with a headlight burned out. The truck was being operated on a road that was limited for vehicles up to a maximum weight of ten tonnes. The driver was stopped and questioned by police at which time it was evident that the driver, a 26-year-old man from Limerick, SK, had been drinking. The man was read a breath demand and provided a sample into a roadside screening device which resulted in a reading of WARN. There was a package of untaxed cigarettes observed in the cab of the truck as well. A search of the vehicle also revealed several cans of beer, some empty, some full, and a small quantity of Cannabis. A further inspection of the truck also revealed that the gate of the trailer was improperly fastened and the load was insecure. The truck was impounded by police for the driver’s alcohol reading. It was towed to a set of weigh scales where it was weighed at over 25 tonnes. The driver’s licence was suspended for three days in addition to the truck being impounded. The driver was issued tickets for the following charges: Exceed 10 tonnes on a municipal road (bylaw) – $4639, Possess unstamped Tobacco – $1400.54, Possess Cannabis in a vehicle – $360, Have / keep / consume alcohol in a vehicle – $360, Operate a vehicle without cargo being properly secured – $175, Inadequate headlamp – $150. SGI investigators at their commercial vehicle division have been notified.
On March 5 at 8:50 p.m. Corman Park Police observed a black GMC Envoy on Township Road 362 near Valley Road. The vehicle had a burned out headlight. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a 62-year-old male resident of Saskatoon. The man admitted to police that he had consumed one alcoholic beverage at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The man was read a breath demand, at which point he advised that he had actually consumed two drinks and that the last one was about an hour ago.
The man provided a sample of his breath into an approved screening device which was analysed at .04 mgs, the Provincial limit. Police observed a packaged of unstamped cigarettes in the vehicle. The man was issued a ticket for a burned out headlight and having untaxed tobacco. He was given a summons for making a false statement to a police officer and his licence was suspended for 90 days as this was his third alcohol related suspension. His vehicle was also impounded.
On March 6 at 1:02 a.m. Corman Park Police observed a red Volkswagen Jetta on Grasswood Road east of Clarence Avenue. The vehicle was stopped to check for driver’s licence, registration and driver sobriety.
The driver, a 36-year-old male resident of Martensville, advised that he had nothing to drink that evening. Police read a mandatory breath test demand to the driver, who provided a sample of breath into a roadside screening device, the result of which was a FAIL. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment where he provided two breath samples measured at .09 mgs. The man was charged with impaired driving and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol in excess of .08 mgs. His licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded.
On March 7 at 9:45 pm Corman Park Police were patrolling in the area of Valley Road and Township Road 362 when they observed a Volkswagen Jetta fail to stop at a stop sign and proceed southbound on Valley Road at a high rate of speed. Police followed the vehicle which was speeding in a 90 km/h zone at speeds approaching 150 km/h.
The vehicle was stopped near Highway 7 and Hart Rd. in Saskatoon and the driver, a 41-year-old female, was detained for dangerous driving. A 58-year-old woman was in the passenger seat of the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of Crystal Meth in the vehicle’s console. The passenger was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant and was arrested. A small amount of Crystal Meth was found in her coat pocket. Both women were arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The passenger was taken to Saskatoon Police Headquarters to deal with her warrant. The driver was released on an appearance notice. The driver was also issued tickets for disobeying a stop sign and speeding. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days due to speeding in excess of 50 km/h above the speed limit.
