The Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League (SU18AAAHL) announced that the league schedule will be postponed due to the ongoing pandemic and current health restrictions, which was effective on January 19.

Even though game play has been suspended since last November, there had still been some hope that the season would to resume when the respective health measures were initially suppose to be lifted on December 17.

But that date has been extended twice since then, and the announcement that return to game play is unlikely before March 30, likely prompted the SU18AAAHL to officially postpone the season.

If public health measures allow for a return to game play at any time, the SU18AAAHL will review game play option options for any teams that wish to continue.

With postponement of the season’s league schedule, any team in the league has the opportunity and freedom to suspend all local team activities , which includes the eight-player training sessions.

The Warman U18 AAA Wildcats have been participating the eight group training sessions and the team along with other clubs in the league have the option to continue with a team roster skill directed program.

It’s been a frustrating year for all teams in the league but especially for the Wildcats as this was their inaugural season.
Just before game play was suspended, the Wildcats earned their first win of the season and was looking to build from that momentum and it would be a shame if they had to wait until next season to get back in to action.

The team not only consists of Warman area players but also players from other communities in the province. With league play being postponed, it provides billets the option to continue hosting players during the current pandemic and give them the freedom to evaluate their involvement with the respective team.

The players also have the option to return to their respective home communities since all they can do right now is train and there is no clear date on when game play is able to resume.

These are unprecedented times and it’s definitely not a normal hockey season but teams within the SU18AAAHL, including the Wildcats are doing their best to provide some sort of hockey activity for the youth while game play suspended.
