Warman City Council voted at its December 14 meeting to renew the city’s membership in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
The annual cost of the city’s membership is $2,827.80.
The FCM includes over 2,000 urban, rural and northern municipalities across the country, representing 90 per cent of Canadians.
The FCM national board is made up of municipal leaders from across Canada.
Former Warman Mayor Sheryl Spence was until recently on the FCM Board of Directors.
Martensville city councillor Jamie Martens was elected last month as a member of the FCM Board of Directors. Saskatoon City Councillor Darren Hill is second vice-president of the FCM.
The FCM’s role is to advocate at the federal level on behalf of municipalities to ensure their citizens’ needs are reflected in federal policies and programs. The FCM’s Western Economic Solutions Task Force brings western municipal perspectives to the federal government.
The FCM’s programming delivers tools to help municipalities tackle local challenges.
The FCM also played a key role in 2020 in coordinating municipal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and in helping to secure $8.6 billion in emergency federal funding for municipalities facing financial crisis.
