Police stopped the vehicle and identified a 24-year-old male resident of the Shell Lake area as the driver. The man displayed numerous signs of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol and marihuana prior to driving. The man was placed under arrest for impaired driving and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples of 160 and 170mg%, double the legal limit. The man was held in custody for a short while and later released into the care of a family member. The man was charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level in excess of the legal limit and speeding. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.

On December 3 at 1:02 a.m. Corman Park Police observed a white Mercedes Benz eastbound on Township Road 382 and then northbound on Range Road 3053, near Martensville. The vehicle was stopped to check for driver’s licence, registration, mechanical fitness and driver sobriety. The driver was identified as a 37-year-old female resident of Martensville. When questioned, she advised police that she had one drink about an hour before the traffic stop. Police read the woman a demand to provide a sample of breath into a roadside screening device. The woman was given multiple opportunities but failed to provide a sufficient sample to be analysed. She was warned that failing to provide a sample was a criminal offence with the same penalties as impaired driving. She still failed to provide a sufficient sample and was arrested for refusing a breath demand. She was released on an appearance notice to court for failing to provide a breath sample.

On December 4 at 11:25 p.m. Corman Park Police observed an orange Dodge pick-up truck southbound on Highway 12 near Highway 305. The vehicle was observed to be swerving on the highway.  Police stopped the vehicle near the exit ramp to Township Road 384. A 31-year-old male resident of Dalmeny was identified as the driver. The man displayed numerous signs of impairment from alcohol consumption such as slurred speech, poor motor skills, glossy eyes and the odour of an alcoholic beverage. Police formed the opinion that the man was impaired from alcohol and placed him under arrest for impaired driving. He was read a breath demand and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he refused to provide a breath test. The man was transported to the Saskatoon RCMP Detachment where he was lodged into cells until sober. He was released on a charge of refusing to provide a breath sample, which carries the same penalty as impaired driving, and had his driver’s licence suspended and vehicle impounded.

On December 5 at 3:51 a.m. Corman Park Police and Warman RCMP received a call of a possible impaired driver southbound on Highway 12 south of Martensville. The vehicle was described as a GMC pick-up truck. The Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit located the vehicle and relayed its position to the Corman Park and RCMP Units. The Corman Park Police managed to catch up to the vehicle on Idylwyld near 39th Street in Saskatoon. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as a 20-year-old male resident of Saskatoon. The man was read a mandatory breath demand and he provided a breath sample into a roadside screening device. His breath was analysed with a blood alcohol in excess of 40 mg%, the provincial level for a suspension. It was also determined that the man had previously received another provincial suspension earlier in the year. As a result of a second suspension for a new driver his licence was suspended for 120 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days instead of three.

On December 7 at 2:25 a.m. Corman Park Police observed a westbound vehicle on Penner Road near Range Road 3051. There were two females in the vehicle and police noticed to odour of Cannabis coming from the vehicle. The occupants were asked if there was any Cannabis in the vehicle and they surrendered a small baggie with Cannabis inside and some paraphernalia. Both women were identified as eighteen years old and therefore not legally entitled to possess Cannabis in Saskatchewan. The driver, an 18-year-old female resident of Saskatoon was ticketed for a minor possessing Cannabis. The fine is $360.
