Inland Steel Products Inc. has been ordered to pay a fine of $90,000 with a $36,000 surcharge, for a total of $126,000, after recently pleading guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to one count under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.
The company pleaded guilty to contravening clause 19(1)(b) of the regulations (being an employer, fail to ensure that a worker is trained in all matters that are necessary to protect the health and safety of the worker when the worker is moved from one work activity or worksite to another that differs with respect to hazards, facilities or procedures, resulting in the death of a worker).
The charges resulted from an incident that occurred on October 19, 2018, in the RM of Corman Park, Saskatchewan.
While machinery was being serviced, it came in contact with a power line, resulting in the death of a worker.
