The following is the occurrence summary for September 8 – 14.
On September 9 at 12:30 a.m. Corman Park Police were contacted about a police pursuit that had been initiated by the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) and had entered the RM of Corman Park. SPS were pursuing a dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee vehicle westbound on Highway 16 from the city limits.
A Corman Park officer deployed a spike belt on the highway but the vehicle took evasive action and avoided the spikes. The suspect vehicle, which was suspected to be stolen, turned north on to Range Road 3062 and was last seen driving towards the Town of Dalmeny. The Saskatoon Police aircraft patrolled into the area and led officers to a farm yard adjacent to the Town of Dalmeny where the vehicle had been pulled off the road and was now stationary. A Corman Park officer and a Dalmeny Police officer located the vehicle and arrested a male seated in the passenger seat.
The police aircraft also spotted a male a short distance away on foot and his location was provided to ground units. An SPS canine officer arrived in the area and led officers to the suspect who was arrested without further incident.
The man on foot was identified as the driver and was taken to SPS headquarters where he was charged with flight from police and impaired driving. The passenger was released without charges.
On September 11, at 8:11 p.m., Corman Park Police observed an eastbound Ford F-150 truck pass a tow truck that had its lights activated at a speed of 123 km/h. The law requires motorists to slow to 60 km/h when passing emergency vehicles and tow trucks with lights activated. Police stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be a 24-year-old female resident of Saskatoon. The woman was asked if she had consumed any alcohol, which she advised she had not.
She was read a breath sample demand and submitted a sample of breath into a roadside screening device which registered as a FAIL. The woman was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where she provided breath samples 80 mgs%, the legal limit. The woman’s driver’s licence was suspended, her vehicle was impounded and she was released on charges of impaired driving.
On September 12, at 12:45 a.m., Corman Park Police observed a white Ford F-150 truck northbound on Highway 219. The truck was observed to be going slower than the normal speed of traffic and was swerving over the shoulder line on the highway. Police stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by a 39-year-old male resident of Saskatoon.
The man admitted to police that he did not have a driver’s licence and that he had consumed some beer prior to driving. The man was read an approved screening device demand and he provided a sample of breath which resulted in a reading of FAIL.
The man was arrested and taken to the Saskatoon Police Service headquarters where he provided breath samples of 150 and 140 mgs%, almost double the legal limit. The man’s licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded and he was later released on charges of impaired driving.
On September 13, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Corman Park Police observed a blue Toyota Camry eastbound on Highway 305 near the City of Warman. The vehicle was observed by police drifting on to the shoulder portion of the highway.
Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found a 45-year-old male resident of Warman driving.
The man smelled of alcohol and admitted to consuming one beer. The man was read a breath demand and provided a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device, which resulted in a reading of FAIL.
The man was arrested and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he provided two samples of breath analysed at 100 mgs%, over the legal limit of 80. The man’s licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded. He was later released from custody on charges of impaired driving.
