Firefighters from Langham, Dalmeny and Warman have apparently been able to bring a large wildfire near the town of Langham under control.
The fire began shortly after 1:00 pm in a field just north of the town. The flames were fanned by northwest winds gusting well above 50 kilometers per hour. A thick blanket of grey smoke obscured visibility in the area.
Langham firefighters were the first to respond to the scene, and immediately called Dalmeny in to provide mutual aid. Warman Fire Rescue was also called, and responded with a wildfire truck, pumper and specially-equipped all-terrain firefighting vehicle.
Area farmers and town public works crews are helping to hem the fire in by building firebreaks with cultivators, tractors and graders.
Firefighters focused on protecting buildings in the area, and also preventing the fire from jumping Highway 305 and Highway 16.
