Clavet Composite, Walter W. Brown (Langham), Delisle Composite, Aberdeen Composite, Hague Elementary and Hepburn schools are receiving upgrades, which is part of the $25.9 million in stimulus funding for school maintenance projects in 15 communities.
These projects are part of the Government of Saskatchewan’s $7.5 billion two-year capital plan to build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate Saskatchewan’s economic recovery.
$5 million is being allocated to Clavet Composite for school upgrades, while the heating and cooling upgrades at Walter W. Brown will cost $1,800,000. The structural repairs at Hague Elementary will cost $1,400,000.
Both Delisle Composite and Aberdeen Composite roof replacements will cost $1,000,000 each, while the heating and cooling upgrades at Hepburn School will cost $2,100,000.
The other nine schools that will be receiving upgrades to various mechanical and structural components are:
• Swift Current Comprehensive High School – Chinook School Division;
• Ecole Mathieu de Gravelbourg and Ecole Beau Soleil, Gravelbourg – Conseil des écoles fransaskoises;
• Yorkton Regional High School – Good Spirit School Division;
• Tisdale Middle and Secondary School – North East School Division;
• Lakeview School, Meadow Lake – Northwest School Division;
• Allan Composite School – Prairie Spirit School Division;
• Father Robinson, Saskatoon – St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Separate School Division;
• Harris-Tessier School – Sun West School Division; and
• All Horizon School Division facilities in Humboldt.
“This additional capital investment will support improvement to schools in communities across the province, and provides students and school staff with high-quality learning environments,” Wyant said. “This stimulus funding will serve as an economic booster shot for our provinces economic recovery, while maintaining our provinces existing education infrastructure.”
In addition to the maintenance funding projects from the $2 billion capital stimulus plan to build a strong Saskatchewan, the Ministry of Education’s 2020-21 Budget includes $45.4 million for preventative maintenance and renewal.
Since 2013-14, Saskatchewan Education’s Preventative Maintenance and Renewal program has provided approximately $281 million to school divisions and the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises to proactively address maintenance requirements as they arise.
These projects support the safety and well-being of our students and school staff, while also ensuring that Saskatchewan schools are built to last well into the future.
On June 23, the Government of Saskatchewan announced stimulus funding for six major capital projects in Regina, La Loche, Blaine Lake, Lanigan and Lloydminster as part of the two-year capital plan to revitalize the province’s economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall, education capital investments will total $167.7 million for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
