The Town of Aberdeen’s new and more than $3 million wastewater system has already been in operation for one year and it will position the community for future growth.
The upgraded infrastructure consists of a state-of-the-art lift station and a new lagoon, which will accommodate the town’s current population of about 700 people and will allow more than 1,200 people to live in the community.
Construction on the overall project began in July of 2017, and the new lagoon was completed May of 2019 and fully operational shortly thereafter.
This new lagoon marked it first full year of successful operation in this past May.
The new lagoon is just outside of town along its northeast border and about a quarter mile from the old lagoon. The old lagoon is no longer used and is nearly fully decommissioned.
The project managers were Catterall and Wright, along with the Town of Aberdeen Public Works and administration staff.
Under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund program, the Government of Canada contributed $1.5 million, the Government of Saskatchewan $750,000, and the Town of Aberdeen funded the remainder of the project with reserves, infrastructure fees and short-term borrowing.
