Enjoyable ‘Tent Meeting’ blends gospel music, history and laughs

“Tent Meeting” resonated with audiences at the Station Arts Centre (SAC) on Saturday, and not just because of its resonant vocals. A sold out crowd appreciated the play’s humour in addition to its gospel harmonies.

SAC presents a summer theatre production each year. “Seeing the show come together has been thrilling!” said Nicole Thiessen, co-executive director. “It is wonderful to watch faces in the audience during the show – the huge smiles that appear when the cast breaks into song.”

Station Arts’ ‘Tent Meeting’ musical like a cool drink

Exceptional gospel music blends with humour to draw audiences into the drama of a 1930s prairie town in “Tent Meeting”, the upcoming summer production at the Station Arts Centre in Rosthern.
“Tent Meeting is sort of like a tall cool drink on a hot day,” says Nicole Thiessen, co-executive director at the Centre.
“It’s refreshing; the kind of show that will revive people’s spirits.” It’s a very uplifting and entertaining story about love and hope that promises some fun and mayhem, she adds.
Playwrights Morris Ertman and Ron Reed take us through a scorcher of a prairie day as a pool hall owner, an embittered farmer, a self-conscious preacher and a traveling evangelist are unexpectedly reunited.
