A 13-year-old girl fell through the ice on a storm water reservoir in Warman on Monday evening, February 5. Fortunately, the girl was able to get out of the icy water by herself and walk to a nearby home, where the residents called Warman Fire Rescue (WFR). According to a post on the WFR facebook page, the girl was cold, but did not suffer any injuries. Warman Fire Chief Russ Austin said the unseasonably mild temperatures have created unsafe ice conditions, with thin and weak spots. Surface runoff from melting snow has also added to the unstable conditions. The storm water ponds in Warman are now closed to recreational activities until further notice. Austin is urging parents to talk to their children about the dangers of venturing out onto the ice.
