Savannah Sutherland of Borden and Rylan Wiens of Pike Lake are among the finalists for seven Athlete of the Year awards at the upcoming Saskatchewan Sport Awards.
Sutherland is a finalist for the Youth Female Athlete of the Year award and Wiens is a finalist for the Youth Male Athlete of the Year.
Sutherland was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics for the award. Wiens was nominated by Dive Saskatchewan.
The award winners in seven categories will be announced at a gala event in Saskatoon on March 26 that will also honour six long-time coaches, officials and volunteers with dedication awards. The categories include Female Athlete of the Year; Male Athlete of the Year; Female Youth Athlete of the Year; Male Youth Athlete of the Year; Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; and Master Athlete of the Year. Coach, Official and Volunteer Dedication Awards will also be presented.
“Saskatchewan is home to some incredibly talented and hardworking athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers and we are excited to shine a spotlight on their accomplishments at the upcoming Saskatchewan Sport Awards,” said Kenric Exner, Volunteer Board Chair for Sask Sport, which serves as the provincial federation for amateur sport.
“All of these finalists and recipients are making meaningful contributions to sport. They are tremendous ambassadors for the province and serve as an inspiration for others to get active, participate in sport and pursue their dreams.”
