Saskatoon firefighters were called to a grassfire adjacent to Highway 7 west of Saskatoon at 7::39 on Tuesday evening, May 14.
Saskatoon Fire Department dispatched an Engine, two Brush Trucks, two Water Tankers and a Battalion Chief to the scene. The first crew to arrive found two large fires burning close to the train tracks. The fire department’s Incident Command requested that a freight train passing through the area be stopped for the safety of the firefighters working on the scene. The fire crews worked for over two hours to knock down the flames and extinguish hot spots, the train was then allowed to resume its journey to its destination. There were no injuries reported as a result of this fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
