Police officers attacked with needle

Saskatoon Police are continuing to investigate following an arrest in which the suspect resisted, threatened officers with a needle and entered into a physical altercation with the officers before being brought into custody.

A Conducted Energy Weapon was deployed twice during the arrest but was ineffective. The man was transported to hospital where he again attempted to escape custody and entered into a physical confrontation with police. He has since been released from hospital and into the custody of Provincial Corrections. During the first altercation an SPS officer also suffered injuries and is now recovering.

In an effort to complete their investigation, investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the first altercation to contact Police at 306-975-8300. The initial incident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m., April 2, 2019 as they responded to a report of shoplifting at a business in the 300 block of Confederation Drive.
