Area teams in the hunt for provincial hockey crowns

The Hague Royals will take on Cudworth in the Midget C Provincial northern final

Minor hockey teams from Delisle, Warman, Martensville and Hague are one step closer to provincial hockey championships, as they gear up for their northern final playoff series starting this weekend.

The Warman Wildcats Lions are set to take on Turtleford in the northern final of the Female Pee Wee A provincial playoffs. Warman beat Northeast 6-0 and 6-4 in the two-game, total-goals quarter-final series to advance to the semi-final. The opening game of the series is in Lashburn on Sunday March 10, while the second game is in Warman at the Diamond Rodeo Arena the following weekend. The team, which includes girls from Warman, Martensville, Langham, Hague, Delisle, Dundurn and Asquith also finished first in the Pee Wee B division of the Saskatoon Minor Hockey League and is preparing for league championship playoffs as well starting this week.

The Martensville Marauder Villains are set to play Meadow Lake in the northern final of the boys Pee Wee A Provincial championship series beginning this weekend. Martensville beat Battlefords in the quarter-final to advance. The winner of the northern final will play the winner of the southern final between Swift Current and Yorkton.

In the Bantam A provincial series, the Martensville Marauders are playing Swift Current in the northern final, with the first game set for Swift Current on Saturday, March 9 and the second game on Saturday, March 16 in Martensville. The Marauders defated Warman 3-1 and 4-2 to advance to the northern final. The winner of the Martensvilel-Swift Current series will take on the victor in the Yorkton-Lumsden series.

The Warman Wildcats will go up against Battlefords in the Midget A northern final. Warman beat Kerrobert to advance to the series. The winner of the northern final will move on to the provincial championship and play either Swift Current or Prairie Storm.

The Delisle Bruins are primed to take on Carrt River in the Midget B provincial championship race. Delisle beat Rosetown handily in two straight games by identical scores of 7-2 to advance to the northern final. The winner of the series will take on either Carlyle or Eston.

The Hague Royals play Cudworth in the provincial Midget C northern final. Hague beat Glaslyn 7-2 and 8-3 in the quarter-finals to earn a berth in the northern final. The winner of the Hague-Cudworth series takes on the winner of the Carnduff-Wadena series to determine the provincial champion.
