Langham wins bronze at volleyball provincials

The Walter W. Brown (Langham) Vikings took home the bronze medal during the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association 2A Girls Volleyball Provincial Championship, which was held in Meadstad and Spiritwood.
Langham started the competition slowly, before beating Birch Hills and host Medstead on November 16.
The following day, the Vikings defeated Ituna, which gave Langham a 3-1 record and a second-place finish in their pool, after the round-robun.
The Vikings faced Raymore in the first round of the tournament playoff round and earned a victory in three sets to advance to the semifinals. However, Langham fell to Wilkie which put the team in the bronze medal game where the Vikings defeated Medstead 25-23, 25-19.
Other Central Valley Athletic Conference teams that competed at provincial championships included Vonda, Borden, Waldheim and Clavet.
Clavet hosted the 4A Girls Volleyball Provincial Championship on November 16 and 17.
The host Cougars were in tough on November 16, going 0-2 after losing to top-ranked Oxbow and to Unity. In the second pool,

Waldheim battled hard but also finished the day 0-2, losing to Nipawin and Lumsden. Losses to Melfort and Carnduff on November 17 eliminated Clavet from further play.
Waldheim split their final two matches of the round-robin, defeating Outlook and losing in three sets to Maidstone. The loss to Maidstone prevented Waldheim from advancing to the playoff round.
Vonda and Borden competed in the 1A Girls Volleyball Provincial Championship, which was held in Fox Valley.
Borden started the weekend slowly, finishing with a 1-2 record on Friday, November 16. The team beat Chief Paskwa after losing to Fox Valley and Englefeld.
In the second pool, Vonda also started slowly, losing to Rose Valley before beating Luseland and Lemberg to finish Friday with a 2-1 record.
The following day, Borden and Vonda won their last round-robin matches, advancing to the playoff round.
Borden was eliminated following a loss to Rose Valley in three sets, but Vonda advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Chief Paskwa in three sets.
A tough 29-27, 25-15 loss to Englefeld in the semifinal dropped Vonda to the bronze medal match against host Fox Valley.
In a closely contested match, Vonda lost to Fox Valley 26-24 and 25-23, sending them home without a medal.
