Savannah Sutherland of Borden is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. August Athlete of the Month Award. She was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
Sutherland won three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal at the U16 National Championships in Brandon, MB. She also set five provincial records and four open records. She competed in the 300 metre, 80m hurdles, 200m hurdles, 4x100m relay, and the medley relay.
The other outstanding nominees were:
* Jayden Hingley, Saskatoon, Canoe Kayak – won four medals at the Canadian Sprint Nationals in Sherbrooke, QC, including silver medals in both the JR Men’s C2 1000m and C4 1000m and bronze medals in both the U17 Men’s C1 200m and C2 1000m. He is working to earn a spot on Team Canada for the 2019 Junior World Championships;
* Colby Kosteniuk, Regina, Special Olympics Swimming – finished first in the 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle at the Special Olympics Canada National Summer Games in Halifax, N.S. Also finished second in the 25m backstroke, third in both the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke and fifth in the 50m freestyle. Has been selected to the National Swim Team that will attend the 2019 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
