Ben Buhler and Pat Bodnar, two long-time residents of Osler, were awarded Canada 150 medals recently. The medals were given to the community by Kelly Block, MP for Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek, and the recipients were chosen by the Town of Osler.

Buhler is a former Mayor of Osler, and Bodnar is a Grade 4 teacher at Osler School. Both have been tireless volunteers in their community for many years.

Bodnar organizes the school’s annual apple fundraiser, heads the school musical every second year, conducts the school’s Division 2 choir at the Remembrance Day and Christmas concerts, hosts a year-end windup for her students at her own expense every June, coaches Division 2 soccer and basketball teams, and organizes the school’s annual Parent-Grandparent program where her students perform for and honour their parents and grandparents.

In addition to serving for many years as Mayor of Osler, Buhler has been a key organizer of the annual Osler Sports Day and Osler Canada Day events, served for many years on the South Saskatchewan Watershed Stewards Board and the Opimihaw Creek Watershed Authority, volunteered with the Osler Mennonite  Church Sunday School and choir, entertained groups large and small with his guitar and vocal talents as a member of the Joy Singers, volunteered at the Friendship Inn in Saskatoon, and pitched in with a helping hand whenever needed.
