UPDATE: 3:54 pm: Wind has shifted and is now from the northeast with only the transfer station fire still being fought but believed to be under control. Grass fire south of the transfer station appears to be out.

UPDATE – 3:46 pm: Fire crews have been able to divide the fire into two with the larger of the pair being at the transfer station.

Firefighters from three communities are working this hour to contain a wildfire close to the town of Langham.

The fire is believed to have started at the transfer station north of the community and has spread thanks to a brisk northerly wind. Fire crews from Langham are being supported by firefighters and water tankers from the neighbouring communities of Dalmeny and Martensville. Smoke is blowing in a southerly direction towards the town as well as Highway 16 but, at this time, travel is not impeded and RCMP are on the scene to monitor the situation in case it changes.

Firefighters are being extra cautious as the wind has become variable from the north and flames are slowly spreading southward towards Langham.
