MD Ambulance new name is Medavie Health Services West

Medavie Health Services has announced the launch of Medavie Health Services West (MHS-West), which brings together its three western Emergency Medical Services (EMS) companies – MD Ambulance, Guardian Ambulance and Prairie EMS – into a single organization that reflects its regional expertise and leadership in primary care.
The transition to Medavie Health Services West will include rebranding all of the companies’ business assets, including uniforms, vehicles and signage.
“Through Medavie Health Services West, Medavie Health Services is unifying its corporate structure in the region and streamlining processes in a way that will ensure the best standards of care for our patients,” said Erik Sande, president of Medavie Health Services. “The Medavie Health Services West brand reflects our pride in being Canada’s largest private provider in EMS services – one that is continually evolving to meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
The unification of the three companies will continue to maintain fleet, paramedic and service levels in their respective communities.
“Each of our western companies will continue to operate as they have before – the only difference our communities, patients and health care partners will notice is the new name and look as we transition to Medavie Health Services West,” said Gerry Schriemer, Chief Operating Officer for Medavie Health Services West.“While our paramedics will now be part of a larger, regional company, they remain dedicated to their respective communities.”
MD Ambulance operates 27 paramedic and primary care vehicles in the city of Saskatoon, SK, with a staff of 174 paramedics and communications officers. Guardian Ambulance operates 13 vehicles, with 81 staff, in Innisfail, Ponoka, Wetaskiwin and the County of Red Deer in Alberta. Prairie EMS and its staff of 66 paramedics and administration staff operate 24 vehicles, including 16 ambulances, in Fort Saskatchewan, AB, and seven other communities within central and northeast Alberta.
